Grainger plc was selected to redevelop and manage the council-owned car park site at Young Street, as well as another under-utilised site at Hortensia Road, by the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea in September 2012.
The Royal Borough granted planning permission for 53 homes at Young Street and 31 new homes at Hortensia Road. This follows a comprehensive public consultation on the plans with local communities, ward councillors and the Council. These homes will be managed by Grainger under a 125 year agreement, for which they will receive a management fee. The Council will retain the freehold and will share a proportion of the long term rental income stream with Grainger.
Construction on site continues to progress to schedule. Internal works are progressing well, including the installation of the main mechanical and electrical plant in the building. The external façade work is also well underway including window installation, brickwork and stonework.
